As the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships descended on Sheffield this March, Televideo were there to provide all the OB services required by a host broadcaster at an international sporting event.
Broadcasting around the world, Televideo cameras covered all the action from the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield as the world’s best skaters competed to become champion of one of the fastest winter sports.
Viewers in the UK were able to watch the live action over the three days on the BBC Red Button, available on all digital platforms. In addition, Televideo also produced a ninety minute highlights programme for BBC Two, presented by former Olympian Jonathan Edwards. Televideo also produced features with BBC Look North’s Tanya Arnold, giving an overview of the sport and an in-depth look at the British skating team, including the brother and sister act of Jack and Alex Whelbourne.
The highlights included the exhilarating 3000m relay finals, the trials and tribulations of the young GB team and interviews with all key skaters from the weekend. Expert commentary was provided by the BBC’s Hugh Porter with Wilf O’Reilly MBE, the 1991 Overall World Champion.
James Mitchell, producer for the BBC programme said, “We were delighted to work with the BBC to make sure the viewers got to see the very best of the short track skating from Sheffield, it was a truly international event and I’d like to thank everyone involved in making such a great show in such a short amount of time”.
As the official host broadcaster on behalf of the European Broadcasting Union, Televideo’s coverage was used by broadcasters including CCTV in China, CBC in Canada and NOS Sport in the Netherlands.
