Busy Summer for Televideo

August 27, 2014

55 OB Days in August So Far

The Televideo team have been hard at it across the summer, with August being one of the company’s busiest month on record, with a total of 55 OB days carried out so far.

The month began with a 2-week long event for British Swimming, covering the Age & Youth Championships from Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Over in Eindhoven, Germany, Televideo’s HD1 was used to cover another swimming event – the IPC European Championships 2014. This 9-camera OB was for the Perform Group, and was streamed online across the world.

Back on dry land, and regular contract work continued, with a live boxing production for Boxnation coming from Wolverhampton on Friday 1st, followed by Round 6 of the British Superbikes from Thruxton on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August. The following week Televideo’s HD1 travelled north to Glasgow’s Ibrox Stadium to facilitate the coverage of Rangers v Hibernian in the Petrofac Training Cup, a broadcast for mneTV.

Meanwhile, another European event saw HD6 travel to the Hockenheim Ring in Germany, as Round 3 of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship commenced on 8th August. This was set to be the busiest weekend of the year for Televideo, with over 100 crew members out on the road, as the British Superbikes at Oulton Park, Shinty in Fort William for clients mneTV, and the World Kabaddi League at London’s O2 arena all added to the long-running OBs to give the company a very hectic 48-hours.

The week commencing 11th August gave most of the crew a chance to take a breath before the next peak began – Wednesday 13th August saw Televideo’s first production for BT Sport, as the EuroBasket Qualifiers came to the Copper Box Arena in London. The World Kabaddi League moved to Birmingham later this week, and OBs in Scotland including Shinty and SPFL Rangers v Clyde for mneTV continued to keep unit HD5 busy, after its recent relocation to the company’s new offices near Glasgow.

On 18th August another week-long event began, this time the team were in Swansea for the IPC Athletics European Championships. This 12-camera outside broadcast used both HD8 and HD1; HD8 acting as the master truck covering track events, taking in a feed of the field events from HD1. The final basketball OB for BT Sport took place on Wednesday 20th August, then it was back to Yorkshire for the Scarborough Cricket Festival, an end of season series now into its 128th year.

Into the home stretch, and the final British Superbikes round of August took the regular crew to Cadwell Park for a Bank Holiday race day. There was more cricket in store as Televideo provided OB facilities to Perform for the Royal London One Day International on Monday 25th August, between England Women and India Women.  The penultimate job of the month will see HD8, HD2 and HD3 working together to broadcast the UK’s Jalsa Salana convention, which this year comes from Alton in Hampshire, and to top off a fruitful month for Televideo, there’s more Shinty, as Fort William and Kyles Athletic battle it out in the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Final on Saturday 30th August.
