Radio and visualisation from HD1
Over the bank holiday weekend Televideo once again teamed up with BBC Radio 1 to bring coverage of the hugely popular Big Weekend to a number of BBC interactive services. This year’s event was held at Powderham Castle in Exeter on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May, with around 50,000 fans in attendance.
The 7-camera production from OB unit HD1 combined live radio broadcast with Radio 1’s visualisation, and went out on the Red Button, Radio 1’s website, and the BBC iPlayer. Radio 1’s entire output for a total of 12 hours came directly from HD1’s sound department, with 10 hours of live pictures also through HD1, and uplinked by HD9. Televideo also covered the BBC Introducing stage with a 4-camera OB using HD2, also uplinked by our own satellite truck. A remote head on a 38-metre hoist offered viewers a fantastic aerial view of the site.
Some of the biggest names in the music industry thrilled the Devon crowd, including Ellie Goulding, Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro, Chase and Status, Bastille, Jake Bugg, Meghan Trainor, Nick Jonas and with Coldplay headlining, the 13th Big Weekend was certainly a memorable one.
