Live Outside Broadcasts for Sky Sports & BBC

It’s been a busy few weeks of netball to kick off the 2017 season, as Televideo covered the International Quad Series for Sky Sports and the BBC, followed by a 2-test series between Wales and New Zealand for the BBC and Sky NZ.

The action began at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Thursday 2nd February, as England played New Zealand in their first match of the SANZEA Quad series. Televideo supplied OB facilities to clients Sky Sports, and the 6-camera coverage was live from 7.30pm. The team moved on to Wembley Arena in London the next day, in preparation for a double-header weekend.

Sunday 5th February saw two matches back-to-back, and first was a clash of the titans – England versus world number 1s Australia. The match was broadcast live on BBC 2 and Sky Sports, with Televideo providing match coverage to both broadcasters. The company provide OB facilities to Sky Sports as part of an existing contract to provide all international and Superleague games in the UK. On Sunday OB unit HD8 was the hub of the match coverage and Sky Sports presentation, whilst HD4 was onsite to provide the BBC facilities for their own production, which included commentary, graphics, and a studio position. Hazel Irvine was joined by Natalie Seaton and Jess Thirlby courtside, whilst Caroline Barker and Lucia Sdao were in commentary for a match that went down to the final few seconds. The final score saw Emgland lose by just one point to the Australian Diamonds, a thrilling encounter that shows exactly why netball continues to move into the spotlight in the UK.

Later in the afternoon New Zealand faced South Africa in the final match of the Quad Series, before they moved to Wales to begin another competition – this time, a 2-test tournament with Wales. Televideo provided production and OB facilities to Welsh Netball for the historic event, which welcomed New Zealand back to the Welsh capital for the first time in 20 years. The Cardiff Ice Arena was transformed, and became the stage on which the Silver Ferns dazzled, proving why they are renowned as being one of the world’s best teams.

Catrin Heledd hosted the coverage, and was joined by former Welsh internationals Billy Pritchard and Stephanie Perry in the studio and commentary, whilst reporter Lauren Jenkins provided reactions from courtside. The action was broadcast live on Sky NZ, and in the UK went out live on the BBC Red Button.

Televideo’s live netball coverage continues with the Vitality Netball Superleague, which begins on Sky Sports Mix on Tuesday 21st February at 7.15pm.
