Televideo produce and facilitate dual-broadcast
After covering all 242 BBL games in the 2017-2018 calendar, Sunday 20th May marked the last day of the season, as our crew travelled down to the O2 Arena to provide OB and production services for the BBL Playoff Final. The company’s flagship unit, HD8, was in situ to facilitate the BBC’s presentation set up and the 6-camera match coverage, whilst HD3 offered an add-on for Freesports to have their own presentation.
Our BBC production was on air from 1pm as the Sevenoak Suns challenged Leicester Riders in the Women’s BBL Playoff Final. Presenter Ayo Akinwolere was joined in the studio by BBL Performance Director Mark Clark, and Nottingham Wildcats’ Siobhan Prior, who watched on as the Suns claimed victory in a fantastic match that got the crowd ready and raring to go for the men’s event.
At 4pm the BBC show went live again, as the 13,000 strong crowd at the O2 plus the viewers at home tuned in to see if the Leicester Riders could do the impossible, and complete the triple for the second year running. It was a thrilling encounter, with the home crowd supporting London Lions in their first BBL Playoff Final clash – further entertained with light shows, fire, acrobatics, and an electric atmosphere. It didn’t take long before the Riders did what they do best, as they stormed ahead to take the win and lift yet another trophy.
Meanwhile the Televideo production team were simultaneous broadcasting on Freesport from 4pm, with presenter Natalie Quirk joined by BBL star Anthony Rowe. This pres add-on used an additional 2 cameras as well as taking feeds from the host broadcast truck.
