After the success of the first televised eason of the Netball Superleague series, which reached an impressive 1.8 million viewers, Televideo are pleased to announce that Sky Sports have signed a 3 year contract to broadcast future seasons, from 2007-2010. Televideo, with partners England Netball, last year contributed to the continuing growth of the number one female sport in the country, with a 23-show series on Sky Sports. Over the season viewers saw all the domestic action from the Netball Superleague, as well as England’s international games against the world’s top netballing nations, the highlight of which was undoubtedly England’s first win against New Zealand in 32 years. For the 2007/2008 season, Televideo and England Netball are pleased to welcome the Co-operative as new sponsors of the Netball Superleague production.
The second season of netball on Sky Sports looks set to be even more exciting than the first. Already, viewers have witnessed surprises within the Co-operative Netball Superleague; with team transfers and signings from abroad, and the loss of international players to the Netball World Championships, the league table of last season has been turned on its head. In November, the highly anticipated World Championships took place in Auckland, New Zealand. The one week tournament saw England battle it out against the world’s top netballers, and Televideo were able to bring viewers all the action from New Zealand, in four exciting programmes across a five day period. The shows were packaged in a purpose built studio at Televideo’s Sheffield base, and were edited onsite, with game action coming from host broadcasters, Sky New Zealand. The final show was truly nail-biting, with England losing to Jamaica in the dying seconds of the game, missing out on the Bronze medal and maintaining their 4 th place world ranking. The 2-hour programme also brought extended highlights of the Netball World Championship Final, between the big guns of netball, Australia and New Zealand. The match was aggressive and hard fought to the end, with Australia taking the win, and the number one world ranking. Former England captain Olivia Murphy, and ex-England international Tracey Neville joined presenter Ingrid Hagemann for the World Championships programmes, which also included interviews and highlights from other games across the tournament.
More international netballing action will be on Sky Sports in 2008, and the exciting Co-operative Netball Superleague will continue on Sky Sports, ending with the playoffs and Grand Final, to be aired in April 2008. All programmes promise to bring viewers the highest standard of games, as well as features, highlights, interviews, and all the news from the world of netball. All the action can be found on Sky Sports, on Thursday evenings.
