All eyes were on a very wet Upton Park on Saturday 14th July, as the West Ham ground became the battlefield for the biggest British boxing match of recent years – Licensed to Thrill; Haye v Chisora.

Televideo were delighted to provide outside broadcast facilities for client Boxnation, who produced a 1-hour live preview show on the Friday night, and the main fight night show, beginning at 7pm on the Saturday.

The Televideo rig team were onsite from Wednesday 11th July for this high-profile event. The high definition production was controlled from HD1, with a VT and world feed production from HD4. A big-screen operation was also in place using a PPU kit. Televideo debuted a new graphics set for the company’s VIzRT system, designed in conjunction with the client, to tie in with Boxnation’s updated branding. The addition of the company’s Jimmy Jib and an Ultra-Motion camera enhanced the production and added to the spectacle of the night.

Despite the heavy rain the rig of the ground and the studio position went without a hitch and all was in place in good time for the preview show at 7.30pm on Friday night, where presenter Jim Rosenthal and guests gave fight fans a taste of what they could expect from the British heavyweights the following evening.

Saturday came and the rain still threatened, but the spirits of the crew, and the 30,000 fans, could not be dampened. Both the domestic Boxnation coverage and the world feed began at 7pm, with Sky Germany and Epix USA onsite doing their own unilateral productions. The weather held out until just before the main event, and as the ring walks began, the rain poured down, but only added to the atmosphere at Upton Park.

The fight certainly did not disappoint – Haye took to the ring in trainers rather than boots on account of water on the surface of the ring, but was not put off and had the upper hand from the first bell. Haye had a stunning finish in the 5th round, knocking Chisora out with 5 rapid hooks without reply. The final seconds of the fight were captured perfectly on the Ultra-Motion camera, and the coverage used around the world to showcase what promoter Frank Warren called “a great advert for British boxing.”

Televideo look forward to future events with Boxnation, available onSky channel 437 and Virgin channel 546.
