London's New Year's Day Parade
|
Televideo rang in the New Year in style with outside broadcasts in both Edinburgh and London to celebrate the end of a successful 2014. We were delighted to provide OB facilities for BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay Live production, with a 7-camera broadcast from the heart of the action on Princes Street. The 3-day event is renowned across the world, and 2014 certainly didn’t disappoint, with an estimated 75,000 joining the street party. The outside broadcast delivered BBC viewers a taste of the spectacular atmosphere, culminating with a dazzling fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle. Televideo’s HD5 made the short journey from the company’s new base in Whitburn, West Lothian, conveniently located within 45 minutes of both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
In London, preparations for the New Year’s Day Parade had already begun. The complex task of rigging a 10-camera OB in the heart of a city full of revelers had been foreseen, and the crew got to work at 3am to ensure that everything was up and running for clients at USP Content in good time for the parade start at 12pm the next day. HD8 was positioned in Trafalgar Square, with cameras along the route, which took in iconic landmarks including Piccadilly Circus, Horse Guard’s Parade, Scotland Yard, Downing Street, Westminster and Big Ben. The parade, which has evolved into one of the world’s greatest street displays, featured around 10,000 performers from all continents, attracting over 700,000 spectators on the streets of London, and being transmitted to a global TV audience nearing 300 million.
