Saturday 23rd May marked the start of the BBC Radio 1 summer season as the Big Weekend got underway, this year from Earlham Park in Norwich. Some of the world’s biggest artists including the Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift and Snoop Dogg graced the stage in front of 50,000 fans, and Televideo were delighted to provide all the live coverage for BBC Radio Visualisation for Radio1 TV on the Red Button and iPlayer.

Our 7-camera coverage centred around Radio 1’s base, ‘The Hideout’, with links to a number of RF cameras across the festival site. DJs including Scott Mills, Annie Mac, Alice Levine and Nick Grimshaw had backstage positions at all stages, and much of the Radio1 TV content came from behind-the-scenes locations, giving viewers full access to the big names stars before and after their sets.

Next up in Televideo’s music calendar is Glastonbury, where HD2 will provide coverage from ‘The Tepee’, a stage dedicated to informal, stripped back performances from the artists performing at the festival. The smaller scale coverage will be edited for use on Radio 1’s YouTube page, which attracts a staggering 300 million viewers each year, as well as being broadcast on Radio1 TV again via the Red Button and iPlayer.

The final stop on the music road show is Radio 1 In Ibiza - live coverage of the 20th anniversary of the high-profile dance event that has come to be renowned on the party island. From Friday 31st July to Sunday 2nd August, the company’s newest truck, HD9, will roll across various Ibiza locations to cover the Radio Visualisation.  HD9 will provide a one-stop solution for the BBC, being used for the production of the 6-camera coverage as well as delivering the output back to the UK for broadcast on the Red Button, using the unit’s uplink facilities.

Televideo continue to cover a wide variety of music events of differing sizes and specifications, often using specialist cameras including Jimmy Jibs, Steadicams, Spidercams  and RFs.  Our most recent music credits include The Killers Live from Wembley Stadium, Cat Stevens’ ‘Peace Train Tour’, the Kaiser Chiefs, and Jessie J.
