BBC Hat-Trick for Televideo

3 Live OB's for BBC on Friday Night

Friday night was a busy one for Televideo, with 5 outside broadcasts taking place, 3 of which were for the BBC and went out live simultaneously across the UK.

After a week of streaming a dual feed of the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships online, Friday saw the semi finals of both the men’s and women’s competitions live on the BBC Red Button. The technical specification was increased to 7 cameras, which covered all 4 games on the show court at the Worcester Sports Arena, as the thrilling competition reached its final stages. Televideo’s HD4 was used on the event, which included 2 VizRT graphics systems, each operating a world feed graphics set fully designed in-house. The broadcast was a great success, with viewing figures impressive across the duration of the web stream, and of course as the GB Men showed their form throughout the week, public interest was heightened by Sunday’s final, when they were able to secure the gold in a fiercely fought match against Turkey.

More than 300 miles north, Televideo’s Scottish crews were working for MNEtv and BBC Alba, as Edinburgh Rugby took on Leinster in Round 1 of the Guinness PRO12, this time with the OB coming from Meggetland. The 8-camera coverage, which is delivered and uplinked by our Scottish arm, used HD5 this week and was live on BBC Alba from 7.30pm.

The final production in Televideo’s BBC treble came in the form of a live segment on The One Show - where at Birdoswald Fort at Hadrian’s Wall, an 80-strong Imperial Roman Army were waiting to take on 50 barbarians in a battle re-enactment organised by English Heritage. Alex Jones and Angellica Bell were joined in the studio by actress Suranne Jones, who began the battle by blowing on a Roman-style tuber. Using 2 RF cameras and a 3rd fixed position, Televideo’s HD9 was the production hub for the coverage of the live battle, as well as providing the uplink for the short entertainment package.

Across other parts of the UK Televideo were also working on the British Superbikes Championship from Oulton Park for British Eurosport, and the European FIA Drag Racing from Santa Pod Raceway – a demanding but successful weekend of broadcasting!
