A Trio of Trophy Lifts
Finals on Sky Sports and BBC
It was a busy weekend for Televideo’s production and OB departments, as the Netball Superleague Grand Final, the National Badminton League Semi Finals and Final, and the BBL Playoff Final all took place within 48 hours.
On Saturday 7th May the Netball Superleague reached its pinnacle, as Manchester Thunder and Surrey Storm met at the Copper Box Arena in London to compete in the sport’s 11th Superleague Grand Final. Televideo have been the broadcast partner of England Netball since the league’s inception in 2005, and are proud to have covered all UK domestic and international netball for Sky Sports. The 2016 Grand Final did not disappoint, with Surrey Storm retaining their title in a thrilling match that came down to the very last seconds, with Storm tipping a 2-goal advantage in front of the sold out arena crowd. It was a fantastic end to another incredible season of netball.
Early the next morning it was time to find out who would make the 2016 NBL Final – as Televideo covered the semis from Birmingham’s NIA on Sky Sports from 10.30am, with a short break before it was time to battle it out for the championship trophy. It was Birmingham Lions and Loughborough Sport who had been victorious in the knockout phase, and in front of their home crowd, the Lions saw off tough competition to take the 2nd NBL title. It was a day that celebrated all that the NBL has to offer – the new, fast-paced version of the sport has been well received across the world, and offers fans the chance to get behind their team across all 5 disciplines of the sport.
Meanwhile in London, it was still all about the ball sports – as the British Basketball League Playoff Final got underway live on the BBC Red Button. The Sheffield Sharks and Leicester Riders fought it out in an 84-77 battle that saw Sharks triumphant, lifting the Playoff Trophy for the first time in 12 seasons.
