Taekwondo Grand Prix
OB Host Broadcast and Streaming Facilities
The Copper Box Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park became home for a team of 25 Televideo crew members last week, with the World Para Taekwondo Championships and the GB Taekwondo Grand Prix taking place from Thursday 19th – Sunday 22nd October.
Clients GB Taekwondo enlisted Televideo to ensure that all media related needs were met, by a company able to deliver a one-stop solution. As such, our team were responsible for many different areas of the event. On Monday 16th October a 5-man crew began preparations, installing overhead cameras on a raised truss, feeding multiple big screens, as well as creating an integrated content distribution system, which was fed from the World Taekwondo Federation’s data systems, across the venue to a number of screens. Televideo also took on the responsibility of the internet distribution, managing the Copper Box’s bandwidth and dividing it between the requirements of all other parties involved.
A large-scale rig took place over the following days, setting up for the live OBs as well as the multiple streams that were delivered to various takers over the course of the tournament. The first event began at 9am on Thursday morning - Televideo streamed every fight from the World Para Taekwondo Championships, with action coming from 5 different mats simultaneously. Each mat had a dedicated 1-camera feed, including graphics and replays. BBC Online took additional coverage of the main mat, which had a 2-camera mini-production added on, featuring commentary from John Cullen, interviews and analysis.
By Friday the operation was in full swing – streaming continued throughout the day, with the semi finals and finals being covered by a 7-camera outside broadcast from Televideo’s HD4. The evening sessions were broadcast live on the BBC Red Button in the UK, with over 90 countries world wide taking coverage of one of Taekwondo’s most high profile events.
