Televideo’s domestic netball coverage ended on a high just a couple of weeks ago, with the Hertfordshire Mavericks taking their second championship title on Thursday 9th June. The Fiat Netball Superleague Grand Final was broadcast live on Sky Sports, and was a great finish to a 25-show series, but there is no real break for netball or for Televideo’s production team – as the World Netball Championships are just a few weeks away.
The sport’s biggest event takes place in Singapore this year, and promises to be an exhilarating tournament, as 16 teams battle it out to become World Champions. This will be the 13th edition of a long line of 4-yearly events that began in England in 1963. Fierce rivalries exist between the world’s top four nations – Australia, New Zealand, England and Jamaica – and it is almost guaranteed that these nations will battle it out for the crown in the last 2 games of the competition.
Televideo are delighted to provide Sky Sports with the very best of England’s action from the event, beginning on Wednesday 6th July as they take on Malawi in a Pool game. Whilst Malawi may be further down the rankings than England, it promises to be a great clash – the ‘African Queens’ as they are known, never go down without a fight, and are renowned for their flamboyant and flashy style of play.
Following on from this initial programme, Sky Sports will join England later in the week as they head into the final stages of the competition – with quarter finals, semi finals, and the final 2 games of the event, promising top flight, thrilling netball.
Televideo will produce 4 programmes using host broadcast footage provided by ESPN Star Sports, and will package into 3 x 1.5 hours programmes and 1 final 2 hour show. Danielle Scivill, Televideo’s netball producer, said, “We are really looking forward to the World Championships. We did the same thing for the 2007 World Champs from New Zealand, and it was a great success, the viewing figures were very strong – this really is netball at its best!”.
